Leaflets to GPs via PCTs

This pilot project is currently suspended for evaluation of results so far and the production of new leaflets showing the latest trial results.

Hillingdon PCT has 50 GP surgeries and has a regular mail delivery to each. They have agreed to include in that mailing 50 envelopes each with 5 leaflets so that our leaflets get to each GP in the PCT.

Find your PCT at NHS Search Engine by selecting "NHS Trusts" on the list of options and entering your postcode. Their address and telephone number is on their website. Ring and ask for their PALS Office (Patient Liaison Service)

 Tasks

1) Ask the PALS (Patient Advice and Liaison Service) at your PCT if they will include an envelope per surgery in their regular delivery to surgeries in the PCT. Find out how many surgeries they have.

2) Request a supply of leaflets and labels for envelopes from someone on the Steering Committee.

3) Purchase a supply of envelopes - standard 22cm x 11cm

4) Stuff 5 leaflets each into enough envelopes for your PCT - probably about 50 surgeries. Stick a label on each envelope.

5) Deliver the envelopes to your PCT for them to distribute.

There are just over 100 PCTs in the UK and about 100 GP surgeries in each. We would require about 50,000 leaflets to send 5 to each surgery. If 10 people tried to distribute to 10 PCTs a year (10 evenings work) we could get alpha-1 leaflets to every doctor in te country in 3 years.
